NFPA 13 Standard for Installation of Sprinkler Systems
The NFPA 13 Standard specifies the proper way to design and install a sprinkler system for a building that has been determined to require a system.
The NFPA Technical Advisory board has stated that the NFPA 13 standard does not apply to the materials or construction of above-ground water tanks used for drafting purposes in the case of sprinkler systems (Case # 31873). NFPA 13 does cover:

(2) Selection of sprinklers
(3) Fittings
(4) Piping
(5) Valves
(6) All materials and accessories, including the installation of private fire service mains
